Frequently asked questions

What's included in the free tier?
All 50 national park trail maps, activity maps (hiking, kayaking, skiing, diving and more), campground locations, 7-day weather forecasts, live fire restrictions, NPS alerts, and snow/ski conditions. It's the most generous free tier in the outdoor app space — no time limit, no card required.
How do campsite alerts work?
We monitor Recreation.gov for cancellations at sold-out campgrounds. The moment a site opens up matching your dates, we send you an email (Trailhead) or email + push notification (Summit). Trailhead scans every 5 minutes; Summit scans every 60 seconds during peak cancellation windows.
What's the difference between Trailhead and Summit?
Trailhead gives you campsite alerts (5 active watches), saved trips, and permit reminders. Summit adds offline maps for all 50 parks, priority 60-second scan cadence, unlimited alert watches, and early access to new features. If you camp frequently or chase hard-to-get permits, Summit pays for itself in one trip.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — both Trailhead and Summit are cancel-anytime subscriptions. If you cancel mid-year, you keep access until the end of your billing period.
Is the annual plan worth it?
If you plan even one national park trip per year, yes. Trailhead annual ($24.99) saves you $11 vs. monthly and matches what Campsite Sniper charges for alerts alone — you also get trail maps and saved trips. Summit annual ($44.99) is $27 cheaper than paying monthly all year.
Do you charge per park?
No. Both paid tiers cover all 50 national parks in the system, and all future parks we add are included at no extra charge.
