Top 5 Ski Resorts in Tahoe
OK so the Top 5 list is actually 6, sue me… Lake Tahoe has 13 world class resorts all within a few hours of one another. Offering diverse terrain, Lake Tahoe rivals some of the world’s greatest ski destinations. Our Top 5 Ski Resorts is based on three things. Easy to get to, Terrain and what else can you do…
Easy to get to
Since the gondola in South Lake Tahoe was put in, it seems like Heavenly has a lock on it. Not so fast my friends. Squaw and Kirkwood may have something to say about that. Easy to get to isn’t just for staying there, it’s driving as well. Mt Rose is as close as it gets to the greater Reno metropolitan area and the road is usually clear.
Terrain
Northstar, otherwise affectionately known as Flatstar, has some great tree runs but the vertical isn’t on par with Alpine, Kirkwood or Squaw. Having said that Northstars runs are monumental. Long, diverse and challenging. But over all, I’m going with Kirkwood. Kirkwood has a great diverse set of runs and isn’t jam packed like Squaw.
What else to do
Hmmm, this will be quick. Heavenly, with it’s gondola, and Squaw, with High Camp, offer the most off trail activities you can think of. Both are extremely family friendly and offer a ton of other stuff the nonrider will be interested in.
Here now the list…
1. Kirkwood
2. Squaw Valley USA
3. Heavenly Ski Resort
4. Alpine Meadows
5a. Northstar-at-Tahoe
5b. Mt. Rose Ski Area
