Mt Rose Meadows Hike Lake Tahoe

July 14, 2008 by TrailsTV

If you’re planning a trip to Mount Rose, you’ve come to the right place as most guides will tell you to park at the house on the North side of Hwy 431 and follow the Tahoe Rim Trail to the Mount Rose Trail. There is a new Mount Rose trailhead which takes you on a more direct route until it meets up with the old trail after several miles. The trailhead is located at the new (04-05 season) snowpark area. Even with the new and improved route this is still a long hike. It covers roughly 10.5 miles round trip and the 1,900 vertical ascent does not consider the downhill on the way in. For motivated and healthy hikers the trip can be accomplished in under four hours, but it will take most at least six. The views from the top are astounding.

In my opinion one of the few high altitude walks that offers great vistas without leaving you exhausted in the attempt. Great parking and trailhead, well laid out just watch the wind as you get towards the top. Enjoy the hike, it’s a great view from the top.

When entering the backcountry, proper precautions should be taken, including your health and fitness levels, avalanche beacon and the know-how to use it, shovel, compass, friend, weather information, and common sense.
