Hiking Glacier Meadow Loop

October 25, 2008 by TrailsTV

Glacier Meadow Loop at Lake Tahoe is a very short, self-guided nature trail that begins and ends at the Eastbound I-80 rest stop on Donner Summit. This is a relaxing stroll with signs along the trail explaining how glacial action carved and polished the area. This .5 mile easy loop trail is located in the Tahoe National Forest and is used for hiking only. It is a very popular trail from June to October. Pets must be either leashed or off-leash but under direct voice control.

  • Nice video!

Thanks for publicizing this trail. I didn't know it was there. Sounds like a great way to stretch one's legs after driving up from the Bay Area or Sacramento, and get some geology knowledge in the bargain.

I once swam the length of nearby Donner Lake in a race. Very, very cold - I had mild hypothermia and shivered for an hour. I was 22 at the time and didn't take the precautions the veterans took - namely smearing some type of grease all over my body.

When entering the backcountry, proper precautions should be taken, including your health and fitness levels, avalanche beacon and the know-how to use it, shovel, compass, friend, weather information, and common sense.
